Action Oriented and Interactive Methods and Models for Self-Evaluation and Self-Emancipation

Wiebke Petersen, University of Flensburg

ABSTRACT

These methods and models focus on the subjective side of self-evaluation rather than on objective criteria. Self-Evaluation of competences should in this context be understood as an activity which assists the participants in emancipating themselves.

This approach starts off from the well-known theory of HOLLAND which matches features of personality with demands and opportunities of occupations. Instead of providing a questionnaire which is common in self-evaluation contexts a set of situations and activities based on the idea of "activity theory" are provided. These situations and activities are however constructed according to the six personality types of HOLLAND ´s theory: realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, conventional. The emotions, interests and wishes which the participants experience in the context of these situations are reflected with other group members as well as with assistance of the tutor.

Finally the experiences and reflections might not only broaden the perspective for new future occupational fields but also for fields of activities in which one could engage in times of unemployment.
